Role Profile

Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) Technicians work with organisations to ensure compliance with health, safety and environmental regulations. They help manage risks, reduce accidents, and promote sustainable practices in the workplace. Their role involves monitoring, reporting, and advising colleagues to create safer and healthier working environments while ensuring environmental standards are maintained.

Course Content

Apprentices develop knowledge, skills, and behaviours in:

- Health and safety law & regulation: understanding UK legislation, codes of practice, and organisational policies.
- Risk assessment & control: identifying hazards, assessing risks, and implementing controls.
- Incident management: investigating accidents, near misses, and incidents; supporting corrective actions.
- Environmental management: monitoring waste, energy, emissions, and sustainability initiatives.
- Compliance & audits: supporting internal and external audits, inspections, and reporting processes.
- Communication & culture: promoting safe working practices, delivering toolbox talks, and engaging with colleagues to embed a positive safety culture.

End Point Assessment (EPA)

  • Knowledge Test (multiple-choice).

  • Observation with Questioning (workplace-based).

  • Professional Discussion (underpinned by a portfolio of evidence).

    All elements must be passed to achieve the apprenticeship.

Additional Information and Requirements

  • Apprentices must achieve English and maths at Level 2 (if not already held) before reaching EPA.

Funding Information

Funding Band: £5000

Non-levy Employer Contribution: £250 (5%)

Additional funding support may be available depending on apprentice age and employer size.
