Level 2 Apprenticeship Standard
Role Profile
Playworkers care for and support children in taking responsibility for themselves and their own playing whilst creating a stimulating and adventurous space for children to learn and explore. They work in a range of play settings including community clubs, adventure playgrounds, mobile play provision, and more. Playworkers observe and monitor play to support development and safety, and subtly intervene when necessary to enhance play experiences.

A: The Level 2 Playworker apprenticeship typically takes 18 months to complete, depending on the apprentice’s progress and employer support.

A: The EPA consists of three parts:
Knowledge Test – 40 multiple-choice questions completed in 60 minutes
Professional Discussion – a 60-minute discussion based on a portfolio of evidence
Observation with Questions – minimum 3 hours of workplace observation with 4 follow-up questions
✅ All components must be passed to successfully complete the apprenticeship.

Achieve English and Maths qualifications as required by the apprenticeship funding rules
Complete and submit a portfolio of evidence before reaching the EPA gateway
Reasonable adjustments are available for apprentices with additional needs or special considerations

Funding Band: £5,000
Government funding is available for eligible employers and learners
Non-levy employers are generally required to contribute 5% (£250) unless fully funded
